On March 15, 2024, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met with Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço in Beijing.

Zhao Leji said, China and Angola are good brothers and good partners with sincerity, real results, amity and good faith. China is willing to work with Angola to implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, further consolidate strategic mutual trust, and promote the upgrading of practical cooperation so as to achieve greater development of bilateral relations. Exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies are important channels to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples. The NPC of China is willing to work with the National Assembly of Angola to strengthen exchanges between high-level legislative officials, special committees, bilateral friendship groups, and parliamentarians to provide legal guarantee for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. Zhao Leji also briefed Lourenço on the Second Session of the 14th National People's Congress.

Lourenço said, the Angolan side welcomes and supports a series of global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping, firmly supports China's position on Taiwan, human rights and other issues, thanks China for its long-term support to the country, and is willing to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in various fields with China, including the legislature.
