The 51st Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States was held virtually on November 10-12, 2021. More than 20 Foreign Ministers from regional countries participated in the General Assembly and discussed regional challenges under the theme of “Towards Renewal in the Americas”. Ambassador Qin Gang attended the General Assembly as Permanent Observer of China to the OAS and delivered a written speech at the Dialogue between OAS Member States and Permanent Observers.
Ambassador Qin said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Latin America and the Caribbean countries 61 years ago, China-LAC relations have been developing by leaps and bounds. Especially in the last decade, President Xi Jinping visited the LAC region five times, and proposed the development of China-LAC relations in the new era featuring equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness and tangible benefits for the people, which is widely welcomed and positively responded by regional countries.
Ambassador Qin stressed that China’s relations with the LAC region is developed based on mutual respect, equality mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. Currently, the resurging COVID-19, fragile world economic recovery and prominent challenges from climate change are putting unprecedented tests on developing countries. Guided by the Global Development Initiative that President Xi Jinping put forward, China would continue to work with LAC countries to advance our comprehensive cooperative partnership, and build a China-LAC community with a shared future.
