Qin Gang: the US Side Should Stop Acting out its "007-style" Cold War Playbook

On October 8, Ambassador Qin Gang took an interview with Phoenix TV in Washington DC and answered questions on the Central Intelligence Agency’s latest development on China.

When asked about his comments about the CIA’s new China Mission Center that regards China as “the most important geopolitical threat in the 21st century”, Ambassador Qin Gang said, President Joe Biden noted in his recent phone call with President Xi Jinping that the US and China need to avoid miscommunication, miscalculation and unintended conflict. Taking China as “the most important geopolitical threat in the 21st century” is just the most serious miscalculation. President Biden also stated in his remarks at the UN General Assembly that the US is not seeking a new Cold War. But shouldn’t the Cold War playbook, travestied from 007 movies, be just left to Hollywood blockbusters? Some people in the US, immersed in their delusions that they are James Bond per se, simply can’t resist the urge to act out their own play. Haven’t they been worn out by such meaningless and harmful actions? Why not give themselves a break?

Ambassador Qin said, I hope that the important agreement reached between the two Presidents in their phone call, i.e. to avoid miscommunication, miscalculation and unintended conflict, properly manage differences and get US-China relations back on track, can get earnestly followed and implemented.
