Foreign Ministries of Six Countries Hold Meeting of Political Director-Generals on Iranian Nuclear Issue (04/13/09)

Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi holds talks with U.S. Under Secretary of State Burns

On April 8, 2009, the political director-generals from the foreign ministries of the six countries including China, the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany held the meeting on Iran's nuclear issue in London. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi attended the meeting.

Liu made positive comments on the remarks of the U.S. that it is willing to develop constructive relations with Iran. He said that under the current situation parties concerned should adhere to the basic direction of solving Iran's nuclear issue through diplomatic channels and seize the opportunity of the moment to intensify diplomatic efforts and resume negotiations at an early date in order to seek comprehensive, long-term and proper settlement to the Iranian nuclear issue.

During the meeting, Liu also held bilateral talks with U.S. Under Secretary of State Burns and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov respectively and exchanged opinions with them on Iran's nuclear issue and other issues of common concern.
