BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- The relations across the Taiwan Strait, which is developing on a peaceful track, has presented unprecedented opportunities for the development of the ethnic minorities on the island, top political advisor Jia Qinglin said here on Monday.
Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a delegation of the ethnic minorities from Taiwan.
They were invited by the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots to attend the opening ceremony of the exhibition of Taiwan ethnic minorities' history and culture on Monday.
"The ethnic minorities in Taiwan are important members of the Chinese ethnic families," said Jia.
Jia said the compatriots of Taiwan ethnic minorities have made great contributions to the peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations and the island's prosperity.
Jia expected the ethnic minorities on the island to participate in the economic and trade cooperation across the Strait and promote cultural exchanges.
He also encouraged the ethnic minorities to contribute more to the peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations and the well-being of the people on both sides of the Strait.
