On January 14, Minister Xie Feng of the Chinese Embassy in the United States met with David Shear, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific affairs at the US Department of State, and reiterated China's principled position in response to the recent announcement by Google on possible adjustment of its business in China. Minister Xie stressed that internet in China is open. The Chinese Government encourages the development of internet, works to create a sound environment for its healthy development and welcomes international internet corporations to operate in China according to law. China, like other countries, administrates the internet according to law. Hacking in whatever form is prohibited by Chinese laws. The measures that China has taken are fully consistent with international practices.
