2024/01/01 18:56

Q: According to media reports, the Chinese student suspected of having been kidnapped in Utah has been found safe. Can the Chinese Embassy confirm this and provide more details?

A: With the joint efforts of the local U.S. police, the Chinese Embassy in the United States and public security authorities in China, the student was found safe on the evening of December 31, 2023 local time, and is now in good condition. According to the local police, the student suffered from a "virtual kidnapping" scam, and the case is under further investigation.

The Chinese Embassy in the United States again reminds Chinese citizens in the United States, especially those studying in the country, to boost safety awareness, take necessary precautions, and stay vigilant against "virtual kidnapping" and other forms of telecom and online fraud so as to protect their personal and property safety.
