Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy: China's Position on Its Military Ties with the United States
2010/06/12

Chinese Embassy in the United States Spokesperson Mr. Wang Baodong said, military to military ties are an important part of China-US relations. China has been attaching importance to fostering mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries in the military field, and is willing to engage with the US side for exchanges and cooperation in the principle of respect, equality, mutual trust, and reciprocity. China hopes the US side conscientiously respects China's core interests and major concerns, to create conditions for resumption and healthy advancement of their bilateral military relations. For now, contacts and communication between defensive departments of the two countries are open and unimpeded. On May 25, on the sidelines of the second round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) held in Beijing, Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) deputy chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Ma Xiaotian, met with Admiral Robert Willard, US Commander-in-Chief of Pacific Command Robert Willard and Wallace Gregson, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific security affairs, and the two sides exchanged ideas on China-US military relationship in a candid way.
