Ambassador Zhang Yesui Meets with Committee of 100

On June 23, Ambassador Zhang Yesui met with members of the Committee of 100 in Washington.

On behalf of the Committee, Chairman John Chen congratulated Ambassador Zhang on taking up this important position. He said that the Committee is committed to increasing mutual understanding between China and the United States and that he and other members are ready to work together with the Chinese side to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields and push for further growth of the relations between the two countries.

In his remarks, Ambassador Zhang expressed appreciation to the Committee for its efforts and contribution over the years to enhance understanding, friendship and cooperation between China and the United States. Ambassador Zhang said that the China-US relationship is of vital importance. Never before have our interests been so closely interconnected than they are today. Our common interests are growing and the bilateral relationship has increasingly assumed global significance. At the same time, the relationship is also confronted with certain challenges that have to be properly managed. Ambassador Zhang expressed the hope that the Committee of 100 and its members, with their knowledge of Chinese and US national conditions and culture, will continue to play a positive role in building mutual trust and promoting a sound and steady growth of the China-US relationship.

Ambassador Zhang also exchange views with members of the Committee on issues relating to China-US relationship.

Minister Xie Feng and other Chinese diplomats were present at the meeting.
