Chinese Embassy held Dragon Boat Festival Reception



On May 18 2017, a Dragon Boat Festival celebration was held by the Embassy of the People's Republic of china. More than 100 overseas Chinese and Taiwan compatriots from greater DC area joined the event. Minister Li Kexin and his wife, Ma'am Wang Wenqian attended the celebration.


Minister Li Kexin, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, extended festival greetings to overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Minister Li said, as a Chinese tradition, the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. People eat zongzi, drink realgar wine and race dragon boats to commemorate the famous poet Qu Yuan. The embassy is happy to celebrate the festival with overseas Chinese so that the traditional Chinese culture can pass down to the next generation.


Guests made Zongzi and enjoyed paintings by the children from the Sunshine School of the Chinese Embassy. Diplomats and guests also performed poetry recitals and piano. Their wonderful performance received warm applauses.
