Minister Li Kexin Held a Reception for NAFSA 2019 Annual Meeting Participants

On May 29, 2019, the “International Education Night” was held at the Chinese Embassy in the US for the participants of the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Association of International Educators (NAFSA). Minister Li Kexin hosted the reception and gave remarks to the audience.

Minister Li welcomed the guests on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and congratulated them on the success of the meeting. He said, it is student exchange that opened a new chapter for our two countries. Over the past four decades, China and the US have become more connected in every field than ever before, especially in education. Last year, more than 1.5 million Chinese students were studying abroad with about one fourth of them in the US. In 2017 alone, Chinese students made a total of US$14 billion of economic contribution to this country.

Minister Li said, “exchange” is a magic and powerful force that connects people, establishes friendship, builds trust and enables prosperity. China will continue to take people-to-people exchanges as the most reliable driving force for its relations with other countries. Our door is open to international students from all over the world. We hope that Chinese students will also be welcomed as always. We look forward to working closely with all international educators to nurture mutual understanding between the youths and lay a solid foundation for future cooperation.

Mr. George Mehaffy, Vice President of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), and Mr. Dong Zengchuan, Vice President of Hohai University, also spoke on behalf of the American and Chinese sides.
