Minister Li Kexin Visits the State of Montana

From October 12th to 13th, Minister Li Kexin of the Chinese Embassy paid a visit to the State of Montana, during which he met with Governor Bullock, the leadership of the State Senate and House; visited the University of Montana, met with the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Perry Brown; called on Missoula Children's Theatre; met with the representative from Rock Mountain Ballet Theatre; held a discussion with representatives of the local overseas Chinese Community and Chinese students. Counselor Tang Li and Counselor Xu Min of the Embassy joined the visit.

 

Governor Bullock warmly welcomed Minister Li and said Montana attached great importance to the cooperation with China. Last year he led an economic and trade delegation to China and held forums on promoting tourism in and investment to Montana. Since then, Montana's export of agricultural products to China has grown steadily and the number of Chinese tourists to Montana has increased significantly. He hopes that the two sides could maintain the strong momentum of cooperation. Minister Li said President Xi Jinping's State Visit to the U.S. in September was a complete success and created new opportunities for sub-national cooperation between China and the U.S.. He hopes that Montana could grasp the opportunities and take full advantage of the existing cooperation mechanisms between China and U.S., such as Trade and Investment Cooperation Joint Working Groups, to strengthen its cooperation with China in the fields of clean energy, ecological conservation, agricultural technology, food manufacturing, etc. The Chinese Embassy would like to facilitate the cooperation.

 

Minister Li met with the leadership of Montana State Legislature, briefed them on the consensus between the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the State Legislative Leaders Foundation (SLLF) on establishing the China-U.S. Sub-national Legislatures Exchange Mechanism. Li encouraged the leadership to take an active part in it.

 

The Provost and Vice President of the University of Montana Mr. Brown briefed Minister Li on the history and current status of the cooperation between China and the university and its Mansfield Center. They exchanged views on how to further strengthen the cooperation.

 

Representatives from the Missoula Children's Theatre and Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre briefed Minister Li on their cultural exchanges with China. Minister Li encouraged them to set up more bridges of friendship and promote understanding between China and the U.S..

 

During the meeting with representatives of the overseas Chinese community and Chinese students in Bozeman, Montana, Minister Li encouraged them to be participants of local economic and social development, promoters of China-U.S. cooperation and advocates of Chinese culture.
