Minister Li Kexin Attended "Chinese Cultural Night" at the
Meridian International Center

Red lanterns and Chinese knots made the Meridian House festive in the evening of Feb. 4th, when Chinese Cultural Night co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy and the Meridian International Center was held in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

 

Minister Li Kexin of the Chinese Embassy, former Governor of Michigan and Former Chairman of Meridian Board the Honorable James Blanchard, and President and CEO of the Meridian Center Ambassador Stuart Holliday, with over 300 guests from government, business, culture and education communities in Washington D.C. joined the celebration.

 

In his remarks, Minister Li thanked the Meridian Center for holding Chinese lunar New Year celebrations in the past six years. He highlighted the importance of cooperation between China and U.S., as they are the two largest economies in the world facing common opportunities and challenges. The two countries should strengthen cooperation, not only between governments, but also between peoples. Minister Li gave appreciation to artists from Henan province for travailing long distance to the U.S. and sharing with American people China's cultural heritage, such as Peking Opera, acrobatics, paper-cut, clay-modeling and farmers painting. Minister Li also shared with guests the merits of Monkey King, a well-known figure in the classical Chinese Novel Journey to the West and sent his new year greetings and best wishes.

 

Artists from Henan province performed Peking Opera, acrobatics and Chinese folk music. Guests enjoyed DIY at booths of folk painting , clay-modeling and paper-cut, where they got first-hand experience of China's cultural heritage. "I have been invited to this event every year but every time it is full of surprises. From the past porcelain painting exhibition and fashion shows to the Peking opera and acrobatics this year, the "Chinese Cultural Night" shows the diversity and splendor of Chinese Culture", a guest commented.

 

This is the 6th consecutive year that the Chinese Embassy has co-hosted Chinese Cultural Night with the Meridian International Center. It has become one of the center's most popular annual events.
