Chinese Embassy Sent a Letter To the Editors of the Washington Post

The following is a letter from Ms. Fang Hong, Press Counselor and Spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. to the editorial page of the Washington Post on May 10th, 2017:

The May 8th Global Opinions column concerning rumors about Chinese diplomatic tactics ("China's smear campaign against a U.S. admiral backfires") unfortunately advances a false narrative. While you cite me on the record disavowing any role by Ambassador Cui Tiankai in calling for the removal of Admiral Harry Harris, the head of U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM), you used a dubious "unnamed source" who says Ambassador Cui "did raise the issue during the transition". This simply did not happen, and its insinuation betrays the current positive momentum that the China-U.S. relationship enjoys. It is a relationship based on mutual respect, not petty demands.
