2010/11/01

On November 1, DCM and Minister Deng Hongbo of the Chinese Embassy met with California State Senator Leland Yee. Minister Deng and Senator Yee exchanged views on China-US relations and other issues of shared interest.

Minister Deng expressed appreciation to Senator Yee for his efforts in promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and California. Minister Deng briefed him on China’s economic and social development goals in the context of the Proposals for the 12th Five-Year Plan recently adopted by the Fifth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee. Minister Deng said that China is accelerating the transformation of its economic growth pattern and expanding domestic demand. China will continue to pursue the mutually-beneficial and win-win strategy of opening up and open wider to the outside world. This provides new opportunities for the further development of China-US relations. A healthy and stable China-US relationship is of vital importance to both countries and the world at large. China stands ready to work with the US side in building a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-US relationship.

Senator Yee said that with the rapid development of China, China and the United States are more and more interrelated, and have broad areas of cooperation. Although the two countries have some disagreement from time to time, he is confident about the future of US-China relations, and will do his best to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

Mrs. Maxine Yee, wife of Senator Yee, was among those present at the meeting.
