Minister Lu Kang Visits Virginia

On March 19 and 20, Minister Lu Kang visited Virginia, during which he met with Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and Speaker William J. Howell of the House of Delegates. Lu also attended the announcement event of Richmond Ballet’s “Road to China” program, visited Richmond Ballet, Virginia Museum of Fine arts, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and University of Virginia. Minister-Counselor Li Hong of the Cultural Section and Counselor Zhang Min of the Congressional and Local Affairs Office of the Chinese Embassy as well as Virginia Secretary Todd Haymore of Agriculture and Forestry, Secretary Anne Holton of Education, Secretary Maurice Jones of Commerce and Trade, and Chair Terry Kilgore of House Commerce and Labor Committee were present respectively at relevant meetings.

Minister Lu spoke highly of the current good momentum for the China-US relationship and Virginia’s exchanges with China, welcomed Richmond Ballet to perform at “Meet in Beijing” Art Festival in May 2015 and engage in a series of “Road to China” events, and had an in-depth exchange of views with relevant cultural and educational institutions on their future cooperative programs with China. Lu stressed that the people-to-people exchange is an important cornerstone to build a new model of major-country relationship between China and the US, and the Chinese Embassy encourages closer exchange and cooperation in all fields between China and the state of Virginia and will do its best to provide assistance.
