On October 20, 2021, Minister Xu Xueyuan met with Mr. Nestor Mendez, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) at the headquarters of the institution. Minister Xu briefed ASG Mendez on the social-economic development of China and the China-Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) relations. Xu stated China’s readiness to work with the OAS to support the LAC countries in combating the pandemic, restoring the economy and improving the well-being of their people. ASG Mendez commented that the OAS values its relations with China and stands ready to cooperate with the latter in responding to climate change and natural disasters, challenges that the region faces in the post-pandemic time. They also exchanged views about the upcoming General Assembly of the OAS.
