On November 30, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop on the sidelines of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Dakar.

Wang Yi said that in the past 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Mali, the two countries have always helped each other in unity. China respects Mali's efforts to advance political transition according to the wishes of its people and supports Mali in safeguarding its legitimate rights and reasonable claims. China is ready to take the implementation of the "nine programs" of China-Africa cooperation announced by President Xi Jinping as an opportunity to deepen practical cooperation and translate the traditional friendship between China and Mali into outcomes that benefit the two peoples.

Wang Yi said that China thanks Mali for timely rescuing kidnapped Chinese nationals with its security forces not long ago. The Communist Party of China and the Chinese government uphold the people-centered governance philosophy and are concerned about the safety of every overseas Chinese citizen. He hopes Mali will take effective measures to guarantee the safety of the Chinese organizations and personnel in Mali.

Diop said that the all-round and robust cooperation between Mali and China has played a significant role in Mali's economic and social development. Mali is grateful to China for upholding justice for it at multilateral organizations, including the United Nations, and is willing to enhance coordination and cooperation with China. Mali attaches great importance to China's concerns and will spare no effort to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals.
