On July 6, 2013, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with Defense Minister A.K. Antony of India in Beijing.

Yang Jiechi said that China and India, as the biggest developing countries and emerging markets in the world, share broad and important common interests while shouldering significant responsibilities for promoting world peace and development. The new central leadership of China places great importance on the relations with India. China is willing to create the cooperative partnership with India for common development and prosperity. The two sides should make joint efforts to maintain peace and tranquility in border areas.

Antony said that the Indian government attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with China and is willing to work with China to maintain peace and tranquility in border areas.
