Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Secretary General of National Security Secretariat Shotaro Yachi of Japan

On February 23, 2018, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks in Beijing with Secretary General of National Security Secretariat Shotaro Yachi of Japan.

Yang Jiechi said that 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship. China has noted the positive posture of the Japanese side on its relations with China for some time. China is willing to work together with the Japanese side to promote improvement and development of bilateral relations and advance exchanges and practical cooperation at all levels between the two sides. It is hoped that both sides can constantly increase strategic mutual trust on the basis of the four political documents and the four-point principled consensus between China and Japan, properly deal with major sensitive issues, and safeguard the political foundation of China-Japan relations. It is also hoped that both sides can conform to the trend of the times and seek mutual benefit and win-win results, so as to jointly commit to promoting peace, cooperation and development in Asia.

Shotaro Yachi expressed that the Japanese side stands ready to work together with China to promote continuous and stable improvement and development of bilateral relations on the basis of the four political documents and the four-point principled consensus.
