China and Malaysia Establish Consultation Mechanism on Maritime Issues

On September 12, 2019, after holding talks in Beijing, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah of Malaysia agreed to establish a China-Malaysia consultation mechanism on maritime issues as an important platform for the two countries to carry out dialogue and cooperation on maritime issues. The mechanism aims to enhance mutual understanding and mutual trust, properly manage differences, and promote maritime cooperation, so as to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.
