President Bush said that his talks with President
Jiang Zemin this morning was very fruitful while attending a
demonstration of the compressed natural gas (CNG) bus engine
produced by Cummins Corporation of the United States on the
afternoon of February 21at St. Regis Hotel he was staying.
Bush said that he and President Jiang Zemin
held discussions about major issues and the talks covered
trade, environmental protection and other issues.
Bush said that the relations between the US
and China are solid, adding that China is a great nation and
enjoys great potentials. He went on to say that bilateral
cooperation in trade, China’s accession to the WTO and
anti-terrorism serves the interests of the US. He pointed
out that the US is a Pacific country and it is necessary to
maintain good relations with other countries in the same
region. He said that as far as the US is concerned, no
country is more important than China in this region, adding
that to maintain close dialogues with China conforms to the
national interests of the US. He said that though there are
some disagreements between the two countries, they should
resolve these disagreements through mutual
respect.
He said that the demonstration of the
Cummins Corporation today has vividly shown that trade
between the two countries benefits the two peoples
