China, US Not to Target Nuclear Arms at Each Other

The presidents of China and the United States agreed that the two countries will not target strategic nuclear weapons under their respective control at each other's countries, President Jiang Zemin said in Beijing on the morning of June 27.

This move indicates for the whole world that China and the United States are cooperative partners instead of adversaries, he said.

President Jiang told a press conference following his summit talks with U.S. President Bill Clinton that China has undertaken not to be the first to use nuclear weapons under any circumstances ever since it possessed nuclear weapons.
