Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Sign the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning the Establishment of a China-U.S. Governors Forum to Promote Sub-national Cooperation

On Jan. 19, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who is accompanying President Hu Jintao for a state visit to the U.S., and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, representing the Chinese and U.S. governments respectively, signed the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning the Establishment of a China-U.S. Governors Forum to Promote Sub-national Cooperation.

In the MoU, the two countries expressed support for the establishment of the China-U.S. Governors Forum by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the National Governors Association (NGA) of the U.S. The forum aims to provide an important platform of communication for sub-national leaders of the two countries and advance pragmatic cooperation in trade, investment, energy, environment, culture and other fields.
