Spokesman for the U.S. State Department Richard
Boucher said on November 8 in Washington, D.C. that China's
entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) is "very
important" to the United
States.
"China's accession to the WTO has
been very important to the United States and many other
countries," Boucher told a news
briefing.
He said that the United States has
always seen as "a very positive step" China's
integration with the world.
China, a founding
member of the global trading system following the World War
II, is expected to join the world trade body at the coming
WTO ministerial meeting scheduled to be held in Doha,
capital of Qatar, from November 9 to 13.
Boucher said that the United States has worked on it for
many years with China, adding that "we want to see the
Chinese accede to the WTO and abide by and participate in
the global trading rules."
He said that
China's entry into the WTO "is very important for the
Chinese throughout the country in opening up and giving them
opportunity to trade, as well as opening up opportunities
for foreign companies."
He also said that
China's accession to it would "creates a lot of new
opportunities for all of us," including
China.
"The opportunity for more American
exports to China is one of the things we look for as well as
the transforming effect on the Chinese economy, the benefits
of economic reform in China." (China Daily)
