The Three Gorges hydropower plant,on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, has generated 8.08 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity so far this year, exceeding expectations.

    Li Yong'an, general manager of the China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corp., said the plant had a successful first year in meeting market demand.

    The first two of the project's 26 power-generating units generators started operation in August.
