Wang Yi Meets with President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe

  On 24 September 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe at the UN headquarters, New York.

  Wang Yi conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping to Mugabe, expressing that Mugabe is a world-famous leader of the national liberation movement in Africa and an old friend of the Chinese people. China-Zimbabwe relations have withstood the tests of the changing historical situation and the traditional friendship is showing fresh vigor and vitality. China will work with African countries including Zimbabwe to push for greater development of China-Africa relations so as to benefit both peoples.

  Mugabe asked Wang Yi to convey his greetings to President Xi Jinping. He said that there is an unbreakable traditional friendship between Africa and China. A few decades ago, China was our most reliable friend in Africa's national liberation movement. Today, in Africa's process of striving for development, China is still our most reliable cooperative partner. Zimbabwe firmly pursues the "Look East" policy, as China is the only country that helps Africa in a sincere and selfless manner and carries out cooperation of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and win-win outcomes with Africa. It is sure that Zimbabwe-China and Africa-China cooperation enjoys a bright future.
