Wang Yi Attends the Leaders Dialogue of UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

On 24 September 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Dialogue of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and delivered a speech at the UN Headquarters in New York. Heads of state, heads of government, foreign ministers from nearly 70 countries as well as executives of major international organizations attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

Wang Yi said that China is no stranger to the concept of sustainable development. The idea that man is an integral part of nature and that never drain the pond to get all the fish is part of the excellent and traditional Chinese culture, which has been passed down to this day. The Chinese government deems sustainable development as a basic national policy and stresses not to stick to the old path of treatment after pollution. We must be responsible for our future generations and the international community.

Wang Yi said that we should vigorously build ecological civilization to realize global sustainable development and insist on "common but differentiated responsibilities". We should have innovative thinking and pay more attention to the quality and efficiency of the development. We should give greater importance to assuring and improving people's livelihood as well as promoting social fairness and progress.
