Dalai Lama urged to stop splitting activities(20/10/04)

The Chinese government says only when the Dalai Lama publicly states that Tibet is part of China, will it have further talks with him.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue says the Chinese government insists that Dalai Lama should give up his position of "Tibet Independence".

She says Dalai Lama should publicly state Tibet is an inalienable part of China, in the same way that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.

Zhang Qiyue says the Chinese government will not further talks with the Dalai Lama unless he makes this public statement.
