Remarks by Ambassador Cui Tiankai at The Opening Reception of the Exhibition of Sculpture of Yuan Xikun

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening. I'm very pleased to attend the opening reception of the exhibition of sculpture, "American States in Yuan Xikun's Eyes: Preservation and Transformation". First of all, I would like to thank the Organization of American States and the Art Museum of the Americas for their hard work and efforts in organizing the exhibition and the roundtable held his afternoon. I'd like to thank particularly Mr. Yuan Xikun and Beijing Jintai Art Museum for bringing to us the fantastic sculpture works about the Americas.

Both China and the Americas have long traditions of civilization and rich cultural resources. People in China are always fascinated by the unique charm of their diverse cultures of the Americas. I'm sure that the current exhibition brought by Mr. Yuan Xikun, a renowned Chinese artist whose achievement has gained wide international recognition, will further deepen the cultural and artistic exchanges between China and the Americas.

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of China's observer membership in the Organization of American States. In the last decade, China has been one of the most active observers of the OAS and has participated in more than 60 projects of OAS. The Chinese government will continue to value and promote actively the cooperation with the OAS, and will firmly support the OAS in playing a positive role in maintaining and promoting regional stability, security, peace, development and regional integration.

The friendship between the Chinese people and the people of the Americas is profound and long-lasting. The geographical distance between us only enhances our mutual admiration and the desire to reach out to each other across the vast oceans. As Confucius used to say, all people within the four seas are brothers. What else could be a better bridge to link all brothers and sisters together than cultural exchanges?

Therefore let me again wish the exhibition a great success!

Thank you all.
