Minister Counselor CEN Jianjun visits AASCU Headquarters



On May 17th, Mr. CEN Jianjun, Minister Counselor for Education of the Embassy of China, visited the Headquarters of American Association of State Colleges and University (AASCU), a Washington-based higher education association of nearly 420 public colleges, universities and systems. Minister Counselor Cen met with Vice President of AASCU Dr. George L. Mehaffy and Associate Vice President for Global Initiatives Ms. Arlene Jackson. They exchanges ideas on cementing and expanding the educational cooperation between the two sides.

Minister Counselor Cen spoke highly of the achievements of AASCU together with its Chinese partners. He said that the past 16 years has witnessed the growing impact of the joint programs between AASCU and Chinese education institutions. The time-honored cooperation has certainly contributed to the increasing educational contacts and friendship between China and the U.S. He hoped that under the framework of China-U.S. High Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE), AASCU and Chinese educational institutions would carry out quality joint initiatives in areas of mutual interests, such as faculty training for colleges of applied sciences, the exchange of Internships and short/long-term scholarship students, etc. Such joint initiatives will certainly benefit more and more Chinese and American students and scholars, thus laying the solid foundation for the friendship between the two countries.

Vice President Arlene Jackson gave a detailed presentation on the 13 flagship programs between AASCU and its Chinese partners. She expressed appreciation for the long-standing support from the Education Office of the Chinese Embassy. She said that AASCU is fully committed to deepening its cooperation with China and will play an active role in promoting the people-to-people exchanges between the U.S. and China.
