Assembly of the OAS
2017/06/27

The 47th OAS General Assembly was held from 19th to 21st of June, 2017 in Cancun, Mexico, under the theme of "Strengthening dialogue and concerted action for prosperity". The Chinese Delegation attended the assembly, as well as dialogues between heads of delegations of OAS Member States and Permanent Observers.

During the assembly, the Chinese delegation expounded on the ideas of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, and highlighted the nature of the Belt and Road Initiative as a global public good that China provides to the international community and its significance to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. China supports American countries in developing their relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and will be pleased to see American countries improving their governing capacity together and realizing coordinated social and economic development through enhanced regional cooperation.

In recent years, the OAS has been increasing input in important regional issues, such as citizen security, capacity building, gender equality and poverty reduction, and made positive progress. Since China became a Permanent Observer to the OAS in 2004, the two sides have kept sound communication and cooperation. China attaches great importance to the unique role the OAS plays in the Western Hemisphere affairs, and will continue to support its future endeavors and further promote the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Western Hemisphere countries.
